ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Violinist Ronald Mutchnik graduated from the University of Maryland summa cum laude, where he studied with Robert Gerle. While there, he won the Baltimore Music Club’s and Baltimore Musicians’ competitions. He earned his Master’s degree from the New England Conservatory, where he studied with Joseph Gingold and Masuko Ushioda. He continued post-graduate studies at Tel Aviv University in Israel.
Mr. Mutchnik is active as an orchestral violinist, chamber musician, recitalist, and soloist. He has served as Concertmaster and Assistant Concertmaster with the Maryland Symphony, National Chamber Orchestra, Handel Choir’s and the Columbia Pro Cantare’s Festival Orchestras, and the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra. He has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras in Maryland, as well as orchestras in Louisiana, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Minnesota. He appeared in the film Washington Square, performing his own composition. He was a featured soloist for the Maryland Ballet Theater and performed in Maryland and Alabama in a special recital, “Music of the Jewish Soul.”
Mr. Mutchnik has taught in several universities and colleges and currently teaches privately. He was President of the American String Teacher’s Association’s Maryland/DC Chapter and produced a video for violinists and violists entitled “Posture & Balance: The Dynamic Duo.” He has toured Korea, coaching and performing chamber music. Mr. Mutchnik is a founding member of the chamber music series Sundays At Three and is Chair of its artistic committee and the founder and artistic director of the newly formed Orchestra of St. John's based in Ellicott City.
Li-Ly Chang, Pianist, was born in Taiwan to a family with roots in traditional Chinese music and arts. Her western music training started at an early age and at the age of eight she was invited to perform in schools and other concert venues. Ms. Chang has studied with some of the most noted master pianists of our time: Sacha Gorodnitzki, Leon Fleisher, Sequeira Costa, Fernando Laires, Walter Hautzig and Jack Winerock. She has received many awards and grants and has given recitals and performed concertos in Asia, Europe and the U.S. . Her performance include the Dame Myra Hess Series, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Roosevelt Hall, Trinity Church Series, Shriver Hall and Strathmore Hall. She has given master classes and lecture recitals in George Washington University, Savannah on Stage Festival, Mannes School of Music, Delaware State College, Levine School of Music, McDaniel College, La Plata University, Georgetown University and New England Conservatory. Recently she has performed at the State Department in Washington DC, the World Piano Pedagogy Conference in Orlando, Florida, has judged in the Chamber Music Foundation of New England in Carnegie Hall and American Asian Music Society in New Jersey. . She was a music panelist for the Maryland State Arts Council and is the Director of the International Young Artist Piano Competition.
