ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Travis Laplante is highly active in New York City’s experimental music scene, and at just 27 is already one of the most in-demand and unique young voices in improvisational sound. Laplante has performed with luminaries of modern music including Anthony Braxton, Mark Dresser, Mat Maneri, Jim Black, Trevor Dunn, Dave Liebman, Andrew Cyrille, among many others. His band Little Women toured internationally to high acclaim, stunning the audience at the 2009 Saalfelden Jazz Festival. Little Women has shared stages with high profile artists such as Ornette Coleman and Sonic Youth; the band’s first full-length recording is due out in early 2010 on Aum Fidelity records.
Michael Formanek’s singular approach to the acoustic bass has led to an impressive range of musical associations. During his thirty-plus year career, he has played and/or recorded with Elvis Costello, Tim Berne, Uri Caine, Freddie Hubbard, Stan Getz, Marty Ehrlich, Chet Baker, Tony Williams, Gerry Mulligan, Bob Mintzer, Fred Hersch, Dave Liebman, Joe Henderson, Mark Isham, Toshiko Akiyoshi/Lew Tabackin Big Band, Mingus Big Band, Terumasa Hino, Cedar Walton, Attila Zoller, George Coleman, Jane Ira Bloom, Bob Moses, Gunther Schuller, Peter Erskine, Joe and Matt Maneri, Gary Thomas, Harold Danko, Dave Burrell, and many others.
Gerald Cleaver has worked with Roscoe Mitchell, Henry Threadgill, Jacky Terrasson, Hank Jones, Tommy Flanagan, Mario Pavone, Charles Gayle, Matthew Shipp, Reggie Workman, Joe Morris, Craig Taborn, Ralph Alessi, Eddie Harris, and Miroslav Vitous, among others. In 2002 “Adjust”, recorded for the Spanish label Fresh Sound New Talent, was nominated in the Best Debut Recording category.
