Baltimore's own ellen cherry is celebrating the release of her newest collection of songs, an EP entitled "Please Don't Sell the Piano." Produced by Caleb Stine, these songs are ellen's most intimate and personal stories yet. Her performance at An die Musik Live will showcase all the new songs, as well as feature longtime accompanist Michael Prout on other works from her previous recordings.

A special treat for audience members will be a "crankie" shadow puppet performance by artist Katherine Fahey, a work commissioned by ellen cherry for one of the new songs, "Pickett's Charge."

Please join us for a lovely evening of stories and songs and help ellen launch the tunes out into the world!

Tickets: $15

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

An artist incapable of stopping the process of creation, ellen cherry (*lowercase intentional!*) has recorded and released original music continuously since 1997. In 2010, ellen released "(New) Years". Each song's title contains a reference to a specific year and the first six tracks are directly inspired by historical events and primary sources such as diaries, photographs and letters. In 2009, ellen composed an original score for Nana Project’s shadow puppet piece, “Alzonzo’s Lullaby”, about a circus train wreck south of Chicago, in 1918, which was awarded the presitigious UNIMA-USA Citation of Excellence. In 2012, ellen will premiere two additional original compositions to compliment more shadow puppet performances by Nana Projects, as well as release her next recording of original work, “Please Don’t Sell the Piano”, produced by Baltimore songwriter, Caleb Stine. ellen also wrote, performed and recorded an original song commissioned by the FOX Networks that was nominated for an Emmy in 2010. In 2011, she was awarded both a “b” grant award by the Baker Artist Awards, as well as the inaugural Semmes G. “Buck” Walsh award for excellence in music.
