A Pianists Guide to Improvisation

Pianist Robert Hitz leads a workshop geared to professional musicians and students interested in techniques of free improvisation. Often musical improv seems to indicate Jazz but Hitz shows that improvisation is for all musicians.

Improvisation opens your personal creativity in a way that playing written music does not, so give yourself the gift of finding and exploring your own musical voice.

Open to beginners and accomplished players of any instrument. Bring your instrument, an open mind, and the possibilities are endless!

About the Artist

It has been said that “passion permeates his music – powerful” (L. Billingsly RSI) Award winning pianist and composer Robert Hitz is the quintessential modern artist spanning genres and influence and open to all great musical ideas. A performer, teacher and composer, you can find him almost anywhere from the concert stage to a yoga studio playing to a most diverse and appreciative audience.

Robert and his audience share an intriguing experience of creating new music together as he invites them to offer starting points about key, color, feeling and ideas. Robert’s concerts feature music from his recordings as well as improvisations mutually and uniquely inspired by the audience.

His music has been described as “touching the soul by inspiring a broad spectrum of emotion”. In addition to composition and performance throughout the United States Robert is also a music educator, classically trained at the Peabody Institute by Walter Hautzig, and is a recording artist with best selling solo albums including “Appassionata” and “Afternoon Nocturnes”.

As an educator he is Artistic Director of Family to Family Concerts, a collective of emerging artists, examining human concepts, misconceptions, and truths in music and theater. Since 2005 they have premiered over 120 new works and donated over $34,000 to Maryland charities.

Robert has performed with new thought luminaries such as Gary Zukav, Wayne Dyer, Mark Victor Hansen, Deepak Chopra, and Barbara Marx Hubbard. He is a featured artist for universities, corporate events, conferences and churches/spiritual centers nationwide. Hitz is also known for his choral compositions and film work. New projects include a multi-genre Alleluia exploring the convergence of faith and ideology for Western chorus and orchestra with a variety of indigenous musical traditions.

The Hero Project is an exploration of personal inspiration through a mosaic of individual stories that Hitz is collaborating with multimedia artist Sandy Triolo, Theater Director John C. Wilson and Kimberley Lynn, Theater Coordinator for the University of Baltimore.
