"Demonio Teclado" CD Release Concert
Tickets: $12/$10 students
Pianist, composer, arranger, teacher, producer—these are some of the faces Erik Deutsch has shown the world. An intensely creative and talented player, he has the ability to lend his sound to an impressive array of musical endeavors.
After a decade in Colorado, Erik is now a resident of Brooklyn, New York. Erik is currently busy with Shooter Jennings, Alice Smith, Theo Bleckman, Jim Campilongo, Joe Russo, Jessica Lurie Ensemble, and his own music. He has also recently performed with Norah Jones, Rosanne Cash, Steven Bernstein, Lovely Liar feat. Tatiana Pajkovic, Trevor Dunn, , Ben Allison,, Erin McKeown, and Scott Amendola.
Erik was the first keyboardist to work in Charlie Hunter's band. During his three-year tour of duty, the trio traveled to the far corners of the globe. Performances in Russia, Turkey, Greece, Morocco, and Mexico were highlights. The trio released Mistico in 2007 and Baboon Strength in September of 08.
Erik has a brand new record entitled Demonio Teclado. Recorded last January in Brooklyn, the ensemble features, Tony Mason, Benjamin Rubin, Jeff Hill, Brandon Seabrook, Glenn Taylor, and Jon Gray. Get ready for a journery deep into the realms of psychadelic soul jazz (release date 2/28/12).
Erik released Hush Money in November 2009. The album features Mike McGinnis (reeds), Sara Schoenbeck (bassoon), Jonathan Goldberger (guitar), Jonti Siman (bass), Marc Dalio (drums), and special guests Eric Biondo (trumpet) and Barry Saunders (bari sax). The musics is a foray into the cinematic realm of Deutsch's compositional mind: synthesizers, dreamy reeds, and warm analog tape ooze into the psychedelic soundscape of his chamber-rock songs. Hush Money can definitely be seen as an amalgamation of Deutsch's life-long musical influences.
Erik's previous recording, Fingerprint, was tracked in Colorado in August of '06. Featuring Ron Miles, Jenny Scheinman, Allison Miller, Todd Sickafoose, Ross Martin, and Janet Feder, the session showcases nine of Deutsch’s new compositions. Fingerprint was released in 2007 on Sterling Circle Records.
Erik’s group County Road X, formed in 2001, performs cinematic-Americana music (imagine a Stanley Kubrick/Sergio Leone double-feature with an electric Miles Davis soundtrack).
Triangle, a piano trio featuring Art Lande on drums, is another of Deutsch’s long-term projects. The group focuses on an expansive repertoire while exploring modern rhythm and harmony.
