Arty Hill is a honky tonk singer/songwriter/guitarist from Baltimore, MD. His songs marry the soul of classic country with the wry storytelling of Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, and have been recorded by the Grammy-nominated Kenny and Amanda Smith Band, AMA award-winning Alt-Country pioneers Jason & the Scorchers, and Austin's Texas Sapphires. He sings with an "'everyman' quality…reminiscent of Johnny Cash." Vintage Guitar Magazine. And with his recent recordings topping the Freeform American Roots (FAR) Chart, it's no wonder Rambles.net calls him "a country songwriter of the first order." His latest recording, a tribute to Hank Williams (including three new original tunes about Hank and his music) further cements Arty’s standing as a confident new voice in real country music. www.artyhill.com
Andrew Grimm is the lead singer and chief songwriter for June Star, a band that puts a distinctive twist on the Son Volt sound. The Baltimore City Paper claimed that Grimm “marries the storytelling impulses of hillbilly music with the rule-bending freedom of ‘60s and ‘70s rock…. These Americana arrangements provide the perfect backdrop for Grimm’s fractured tales about telegraph wires, fog-bound roads and runs.” Citing Grimm’s song “Baltimore,” the Washington Post added, “Grimm gets the tone just right, delivering the lyrics with a mixture of despair and determination: ‘Nobody came, but my band still played / We just closed our eyes and made believe . . . we got two channels of 700 watts / We're gonna give it all we got, tonight.’” www.andrewgrimm.com
Though he is best known as a music critic for the Washington Post, Baltimore City Paper, Nashville Scene, Jazz Times, No Depression, Paste and others, Geoffrey Himes is also a longtime singer-songwriter who has co-written songs with Fred Koller, Walter Egan, Sonia Rutstein, Billy Kemp, Stephen Wade, Jim Patton, Ed Pettersen, Howard Markman, Paul Margolis, Josh Charles, Timothy Bracken, Andrew Grimm, Bob Kannenberg and others. This month Himes will premiere his new song, “Sinkhole."
