Underwoman and the Believers is the brainchild of writer/pianist Carolyn Chen, accompanied by Arnold Kim on viola and Tyler Sanders on bass.

Carolyn grew up studying classical piano and watching indie films, but didn’t start seriously writing her own classical-indie-inspired music until college, at the urging of one of her friends. As she tried to make cool art and theater without flunking out of MIT, she hung out with fellow Beaver and computer science major, Arny, who lived in the dorm next door and played in the symphony orchestra.

Fast forward to several years later in California: Carolyn and Arny reconnect, and Carolyn is introduced to Tyler -- a genteel Ole Miss and L-O-U Orchestra alum-slash-seminary student– and the trio inside Carolyn’s head soon became a delightful reality.

Recently, these three have played at the Whisky A Go Go (Hollywood), Coffee Bar USA (San Francisco), Spice Monkey Café (Oakland), Red Rock Coffee (Mountain View), and friends’ homes. Influences include film scores, J.S. Bach, Duncan Sheik, and Sarah Polley movies.
