Nick Demopoulos

Nick Demopoulos is a composer and performer whose music has appeared on television, film, internet, in art galleries, iphone video games, musical theatre pieces and more. Some notable venues where he has presented his own groups include the Whitney Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, National Geographic Museum, Phoenix Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Primarily a guitar player, Nick relocated to New York from Los Angeles in 1997. At this time he created his electronic/jazz ensemble "Exegesis." Exegesis has performed throughout the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and released the recording "the Order of Chaos" in 2003. In 2008 Exegesis was selected by Jazz at Lincoln Center and the U.S. Department of State to be musical Cultural Ambassadors in the "Rhythm Road" program. This program enabled Exegesis to perform and give educational workshops in Bahrain, Yemen, Oman, The United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. Also in 2008 Nick began performing and recording with NEA jazz master and renowned percussionist Chico Hamilton and his ensemble Euphoria. He has also recorded and toured with EMI recording artists Solsonics, and performed with Adam Dugas, Walter Thompson and Angel Eyedealism among others.

As a composer, in collaboration with playwrite Ford Wright, Nick composed two musicals, "Rhymes with Adventure" and "I, Medusa." Rhymes with Adventure was chosen as one of the best theatre pieces of the '99-00 season by the Village Voice and was performed at the Soho Repertory Theatre. The following year, I, Medusa appeared at the Ontological Theatre in New York. In 2009 Nick scored a short film by Nikon and cinematographer Harris Savides. He has also composed music for the Guggenheim Museum, Motorola and Estee Lauder, the Danish television show Island Cop. He also did the sound design for a video wall by artist Yorgo Alexopoulos that appeared at the Torrance Museum of Art in the fall of 2010, in a piece entitled "No Feeling is Final."

In 2010 Nick began performing and recording on and instrument he designed and built called the "Smomid," it's name being an acronym for String Modeling Midi Device. This is an instrument that looks much like a guitar or electric bass, yet is different in that melodies can by played while simultaneously bass lines and beats can be controlled, audio samples can be manipulated and audio effects parameters can be altered. The Smomid made it's debut performance in 2010, and since that time has been featured in performances at Dixon Place Theatre in New York, the 2011 Guthman International Musical Instrument Competition, the WNYC's Greenspace in New York, the Interactive Music New York Festival, Handmade Music New York and the 2010 World Maker Faire among others.

Jeremy Carlstedt - Drums

At 8 years old – Jeremy picked up the sticks and embarked on a 25+ year path into the music. While attending the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, under the tutelage of Davey Yarborough, I was the recipient of the Count Basie Festival Award for Outstanding Soloist. Onward to NYC, I became a student at The New School, and was soon learning the secrets of jazz with Chico Hamilton, Arnie Lawrence, Charli Persip, and Makanda Ken McIntyre – true legends. In 2004 I appeared on poet Ursula Rucker’s ‘Silver or Lead’ tour which took me to Europe and South Africa. In 2005, I became a member of Chico Hamilton’s group, Euphoria, which has appeared nationally at venues such as The Newport Jazz Festival. Chico’s most recent effort, ‘Twelve Tones of Love’ included my composition, ‘Penthouse A’, which garnered airplay in the US and abroad.
