FULL OF PROMISE is a group comprised of some of the best young musicians in Baltimore. The intentional combining of 20th Century classical music with jazz and free-improvised music creates an ensemble sound that is both new but familiar. Matt’s compositions also blur the lines between composed music and improvisation making every piece different every time.

At a time when most musicians are trying to focus on one style of music, multi-instrumentalist Matt Rynes is an active performer in several different styles of music. Matt is a recent graduate of the Towson University Jazz program where he studied saxophone and improvised music with Darryl Brenzel, Dave Ballou and Jim McFalls. Through the school’s jazz residency program, he has had the privilege to perform and study with musicians as varied as John Hollenbeck, Tim Hagans, Ellery Eskelin, Drew Gress, Gerald Cleaver and Craig Taborn. He has been a member of the “Out of Your Head” improvised music collective in Baltimore since 2009 and is a frequent performer with the collective.

Matt is also perfectly at home as a classical clarinetist. He is the only jazz performance major to have ever won a concerto competition at Towson and he is one of the only wind players in the school’s history to win multiple competitions. Matt will begin his graduate studies in August at the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre and Dance where he will study clarinet performance.
