An Artist Diploma candidate at the Peabody Conservatory of Baltimore, Brazilian pianist Ronaldo Rolim is described as a musician with “a special capability of moving the listener through his interpretations” (El Norte, Monterrey, Mexico). Winner of more than 30 prizes in competitions around the globe, Ronaldo’s latest achievements include the 1st prize at the Bösendorfer International Piano Competition in Tempe, Arizona, and the 2nd prize at the San Marino International Piano Competition in Borgo Maggiore, San Marino.

Ronaldo has performed extensively in his native Brazil, and also in the United States, Mexico, Spain, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy and Austria, having played at prestigious venues both sides of the Atlantic, such as Carnegie Hall (New York), Steinway Hall (London), Theatro Municipal (Rio de Janeiro), Palazzo Chigi Saracini (Siena) and Auditorio San Pedro (Monterrey), among others. He has been a guest soloist of several Brazilian orchestras, including the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra, São Paulo Radio Orchestra, São Paulo University Orchestra and Campinas Symphony Orchestra; in England, he performed Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Owain Arwel Hughes; in the United States he was guest soloist of the Pontiac Symphony and the Peabody Symphony Orchestras, besides having performed Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire with the Peabody Camerata, conducted by Gene Young. In 2010, he took part at the Rio de Janeiro edition of the Folle Journée Festival, which paid tribute to the 200th anniversary of Chopin’s birth. A passionate chamber musician, Ronaldo frequently collaborates with diverse singers and instrumentalists, among them luminaries like Marina Piccinini, Michael Kannen and Maria Lambros. Alongside violinist Lydia Chernicoff and cellist Andrea Casarrubios, he founded Trio Appassionata, ensemble now completing five years of intense activity throughout the United States, including an Artistic Residency presented by Chamber Music Sedona in 2012.

Ronaldo’s music has had a substantial presence in programs of radio and TV in Brazil, with broadcast of several performances (including live recitals for Rádio Mec, Brazil’s Classical Music public radio), and participation in projects such as Brasil Piano Solo (a series of recitals dedicated exclusively to Brazilian Music, presented by the TV Cultura Channel of São Paulo) and the documentary Magda Tagliaferro: The World Inside a Piano, in which Ronaldo performs music by Scriabin.

Born in 1986 in Votorantim, Brazil, Ronaldo Rolim started his musical studies with his mother, Miriam Correa, having given his first public performance at the age of four. In 1998 he transferred to São Paulo, where he was admitted into the Magda Tagliaferro School, having studied with professors Zilda Candida dos Santos and Armando Fava Filho. At the age of eighteen, after winning the Nelson Freire and the Magda Tagliaferro Piano Competitions, he moved to the USA to study with pianist Flavio Varani at Oakland University (Michigan). In the meantime, he was awarded Outstanding Student in Piano Performance by Oakland University and by the Detroit Mu Phi Epsilon Association, having performed several concerts and recitals in the area. In 2007, Ronaldo was admitted into the Peabody Conservatory, where he completed his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees as a student of Benjamin Pasternack, who remains his professor and mentor to this day. Among his most significant accomplishments at Peabody so far Ronaldo received the Pauline Favin Memorial Award in Piano, the 1st prize at the Harrison Winter Piano Concerto Competition, the Douglas and Hilda Goodwin Scholarship for Chamber Music and the 2012 Presser Award.
