Sound Connections II

The performers who brought us the wonderful recital last spring for the Baltimore Composers Forum are returning to play an all new program of music.

Pianist Ruth Rose will play:
"The Persistence of Music" for solo piano by Mark Hanson Williams
"Fugues and Postludes #8 and #11" for solo piano by Rahilia Hasanova
"TBD (Moving Macbeth)" for solo piano by Ljiljana Jovanovic
"Tolerance" for solo piano by George Spicka

Cellist Adam Gonzalez and Pianist Diana Greene will play:
"Journey With a Wayfaring Stranger" for cello and piano by Hillary Kruh "Hibernation Season" for solo cello by Jin-Hwa Choi

Ruth Rose is a pianist whose repertoire ranges from the Baroque and Romantic to the contemporary. Her playing has been praised by the international press for her "truly memorable performance", "blooming romanticism ... a deep, warm sound ... rich interpretations ... and a smooth singing quality." She has performed extensively in recital, with orchestra and as a chamber musician throughout Europe, the United States and South America, appearing at prestigious venues like Merkin Hall, American University, the San Diego Repertory Theater and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and soloed with such ensembles as the Chamber Orchestra of Florida and the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional of Peru. Ms Rose is also a committed performer of contemporary music, and many composers have dedicated pieces to her. She is a founding member of the renowned "Concerten tot en met" contemporary series in Amsterdam, and has performed with the Contemporary Music Forum at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington DC. She is also a frequent collaborator with the In Series. A graduate of the Peabody conservatory and based in Washington DC since 2003, Ruth Rose was born in Peru. She has been a faculty member of the Washington Conservatory, and is an active board member of the Washington Music Teachers Association. Her CD "Spanish and Latin American piano music" has been released on the Americus label

Adam Gonzalez, cellist, currently performs with the Azimuth String Quartet and Trio Giocoso. He is a veteran of the Mid-Atlantic Symphony, the New Mexico Symphony, and the Mexico City Philharmonic. His commercial recording work has included music for the History Channel and National Geographic.

Adam has taught at Georgetown University (DC) and Montgomery College (MD), and was Director of Instrumental Music at the Waldorf School in Baltimore. He currently teaches Music Appreciation at Carroll Community College in Westminster, MD and maintains a cello studio at Frederick Community College in Frederick, MD. He also teaches in his home studio near Kensington, MD.

He is a graduate of Wheaton College (IL) and has an M.A. in cello performance from Boston University (MA).

When not teaching or performing, Adam can be found on board his 29-foot sailboat, Mystique.

Diana Greene, pianist, is an active performer, accompanist, and music instructor with expertise in piano instruction and early childhood music. Diana received her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Wheaton College where she studied with Reginald Gerig. She then completed her Master of Music, also in Piano Performance at The University of North Texas, studying with Tong-il Han. Other teachers include Carola Grindea of the London Guildhall School of Music and Mary Sauer of DePaul University and the Chicago Symphony.

Diana has performed throughout the US, Canada, and England with appearances at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and Warwick Cathedral. She was managing director for May Music in Charlotte, NC and Chamber Music at St. Peter’s where she also performed with Charlotte Symphony principle cellist, Alan Black.

Most recently, Diana served on the faculty at Gerstell Academy as the music instructor for the primary grades and also as music director and accompanist for the Children’s Chorus of Carroll County. She currently resides in Sussex County, NJ with her husband Allan.
